Gaining independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan
On August 31, 1991, in Tashkent, at the sixth extraordinary session of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR, a statement on the state independence of the Republic was adopted and by a corresponding resolution on September 1, it was approved as the Independence Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan. On the same day, the law “On the Foundations of State Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was adopted.
After the country gained independence, the issue of protecting the foundations of national independence was one of the main ones. In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated September 6, 1991, the Ministry of Defense Affairs was established, its staff structure and powers were determined.
On January 14, 1992, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution on the transfer of military units, formations, associations, military schools, institutions, organizations, and other military structures of the former USSR, located on the territory of the republic, under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
